On Tuesday, we’ve covered an article from TuttoSport which said Arsenal were being tough on letting Wojciech Szczesny stay at Roma for one more season.
The newspaper didn’t give much details on why the Gunners were causing the delay, but now Gazzetta dello Sport explains the situation.
They say Arsenal are waiting to see what will happen with David Ospina. The club are waiting for bids and all they have for now is a €4m offer from Besiktas.
So if the Chilean player leaves, they will probably want the Polish to be on Petr Cech’s bench. However, Ospina has been repeatedly linked with Besiktas, without much actually happening, and the recent problems in Turkey make a move to Istanbul less attractive.
Anyway, Gazzetta believe Szczesny wants to be at Roma, for now at least. The Italian side’s idea is to have the goalkeeper on loan for one more season with an option to buy him for €15m next summer. They are just waiting for Arsenal’s response.
Roma may well get tired of waiting, they signed Alisson, Brazil’s goalkeeper at the Copa America, in January and he’s now arrived at the club. Szczesny staying is the desired option, but with things dragging out there’s added uncertainty.
Gazzetta say there’s now ‘chaos’ around the situation, which doesn’t like a good thing.
