As things stand, Rachid Ghezzal looks likely to stay at Lyon for next season.
Whether he signs a new contract or not is a different matter altogether, but having rejected Everton’s advances due to their lack of European football, according to the French press on Monday, the 24-year-old would apparently be edging towards a pay rise at Lyon.
However, according to France Football, Arsenal are also in the running for the right-winger, ‘moving in the shadows’ as the French magazine put it.
Under a week ago it was reported in France that Everton had agreed a fee with Lyon to sign the player, the decision then down to Ghezzal.
While Everton have been cast aside, West Ham, who also placed a bid a few weeks ago, are desperate to bring him to London Stadium.
Having allegedly ‘failed’ in their attempts to sign Riyad Mahrez, going for Rachid Ghezzal, a left-footed forward, could be the next logical step in Arsène Wenger’s transfer plans.
He’d be a lot cheaper too.
Ghezzal is yet to sign his new contract with Lyon, and a last minute push from either West Ham or Arsenal could see him make the jump across the Channel as both clubs currently play in Europe (at least, West Ham will if they qualify).
