Arsenal ‘moving very hard’ to tie signing down – ‘Strong competition’ from Gunners for player

Mundo Deportivo report Barcelona are looking to sign a midfielder in the January window, and the story leads with the club considering an attempt for Ilkay Gundogan.

That may be a difficult move in the winter market, but their hope is that with his contract expiring next summer, there may be a chance when the next window opens.

Another option being looked at is Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans, however, Arsenal are said to be providing ‘strong competition’ in this case. According to the Catalan newspaper, the Gunners are ‘moving very hard’ to secure a midfield signing, and the opportunity to get Tielemans on a free next summer is an attractive one for Mikel Arteta’s side.

Reports in Belgium recently have even suggested an Arsenal move is close for the player, although this has all been looking towards the end of the season. Barcelona may therefore try to move in January and see if offering Leicester a small fee could tempt the Foxes into parting ways early.

Right now, Tielemans just looks like an idea for the Blaugrana, and it’s Arsenal who seem ahead in the race.
