Arsenal should look to sign a new No.9 in the next window after failing to bring in a striker in January.
The Gunners were keen on taking Dušan Vlahović, but his decision to join Juventus saw them look at a handful of other options, especially from La Liga, and one among them is Luka Jović.
According to Marca, the north London club, who ‘already tested the ground’ in the winter market, ‘have moved’ for the Serbia international.
Los Blancos took the frontman from Eintracht Frankfurt in 2019 and he’s managed to start in only six league games since then. Carlo Ancelotti has not handed the player a league start, and has restricted him to only 13 league appearances this season.
The player is ‘fed up’ with his situation at the Bernabéu, and Marca say that unless there is a surprise twist in the coming months, Jović is expected to pack his suitcases and leave Real Madrid, ‘waiting for negotiations to be held and what formula will be specified’.
Since January, several interested clubs have looked at him, without making official contact with Ancelotti’s side.
The report further adds that although it’s too early in March to advance or close the deal for Jović, this ‘period is important to take positions’ and Arsenal have ‘moved’ to sign him.
Jović’s contract expires in 2025 and a sale in the summer is difficult. There is a possibility for him to go out on loan, something that will include a purchase option.
Arsenal have done business with Real Madrid in the past few seasons when they took Dani Ceballos and Martin Ødegaard on loan deals before buying the latter last summer. This may favour them in doing more business with the Spanish giants in the next window.
