Lucas Torreira is already back at Arsenal. The midfielder played Uruguay’s friendly match against Mexico on Saturday, and quickly returned to London.
The player was a starter in the the 4-1 win, but was subbed off at half time. Uruguay were already winning 3-1 during the break, so manager Fabian Coito wanted to give the others a chance to play.
The Arsenal midfielder has spoken to Uruguayan radio station Sport890 after his return to London, and talked a little about his adaptation to the Gunners.
The interview started with the journalists asking if he had herba mate (the drink you’ll see Suarez constantly attached to) in England. Torreira claimed that it hasn’t been a problem so far.
“I’m everyday with mate and with my girlfriend, it’s the best company we have,” Torreira told Sport890. “The people here are very cool, the fans received me in the best way.”
Torreira, who’s still to start a match for the Gunners, showed his wish to be in the XI against Newcastle United at the Sports Direct Arena on Saturday, and said: “This is all new, the league is very different from the Italian”.
The player also claimed that “it’s a pride to be the first Uruguayan in Arsenal”.
“I always dreamed of playing in a club like that and I’m living it at 22 years old. Sometimes I find it hard to stop in time and see where I am.”
Torreira joined Arsenal in a €30m deal from Sampdoria this summer. He’s signed a contract until 2023.
