Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira is ‘looking for a way back to Italy’, and AC Milan may be ready to offer it to him.
The Uruguayan midfielder has been at the Emirates since 2018 after making a £25m move from Sampdoria, but his time at the club has not been a resounding success.
He has often struggled to find his best form at the club, mainly as a result of being played out of position by former manager Unai Emery.
There have thus been doubts about his long-term future at the club for the best part of a year, with him heavily linked with a return to Italy last summer.
AC Milan were chief among his suitors and, according to CalcioMercato, they may be willing to provide him with an exit route again this year.
The website explains that Milan are on the hunt for a central midfielder who is ready to ‘drag the team’ and have several on their list.
At the top of that list are Sandro Tonali and Edouard Camavinga but they may be hard to obtain given the interest in them from top sides around Europe.
Torreira would then be an option, and an attractive one given he knows Serie A after doing ‘so well’ during his time at Sampdoria.
He already agreed to a move to the San Siro before joining Arsenal and is looking to return to Italy, so the suggestion is he would be keen on the move should it be presented to him.
Arsenal’s stance isn’t made clear, although if their finances are as tight as it is believed, perhaps they would be open to a sale to give Mikel Arteta much-needed funds for this summer.
