On Sunday we covered claims from Italy that Fiorentina were about to make a take-it-or-leave-it offer to Arsenal for Lucas Torreira.
The offer would consist of a loan until the end of the current season, and then a compulsory purchase clause which wouldn’t exceed €11m. There was some confidence that could do the trick for the Serie A club.
Tuttosport say similar in their Monday edition, stating Arsenal and Fiorentina are set to have a meeting ‘in the next few hours’ to try and sort out the potential transfer. There’s hope that these talks will be ‘definitive’ and therefore produce the outcome the Tuscany club are looking for.
Despite all this confidence from Italy, the biggest problem continues to be overlooked. Atletico Madrid have Torreira on loan for the season and their agreement will be needed for the midfielder to go elsewhere.
Reports in Spain have stated Diego Simeone would be reluctant to let the player leave this month, because he wants his squad to have strength in depth as they work to win La Liga.
The Atletico manager is aware there’s a good chance of midfield injuries, and further Covid-19 isolation absences, so would surely want a replacement in, regardless of what Arsenal and Fiorentina agree.
