Alexandre Lacazette to Arsenal is a transfer story which has been knocking around for a good few years, and one which has made a certain amount of sense for most of that time.

He’s a striker, he’s French, he actually scores a lot of goals… et voilà.

There’s been approaches and offers, we know this because Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas loves to talk about the situation. But there hasn’t been anything especially new, until now.

On Friday afternoon, and that’s an important distinction (bear with us), RMC reported an Arsenal offer of €50m, which they said was good enough to match what Aulas wants.

Things are advancing and the clubs getting closer, a meeting is expected early next week to finalise the transfer, RMC found all that out from a source close to the English club.

L’Equipe had earlier reported that Arsenal were prepared to pay something around €50-60m for the 25 year old, so RMC’s claims were a jump forward from that.

However, L’Equipe don’t even mention that advance in their Saturday newspaper, despite having a big article on the matter. Given RMC’s claims came out in the afternoon, the French newspaper had every opportunity to ramp up their own side, but didn’t want to.

L’Equipe reiterate that Arsenal want the player, the destination makes the most sense to him, and things could move quickly… but despite an awful lot of words they don’t come across as being too sure this is all imminent.

Perhaps the French side of a potential deal isn’t quite as convinced of the impending completion as those sources close to Arsenal are.
