Lucas Torreira was keen on leaving Arsenal for Boca Juniors after returning from his loan stay at Atlético Madrid.

The deal didn’t take shape and the 25-year-old expressed his disappointment over his failure to seal a dream move to the South American club in the summer.

Towards the end of the last transfer window, Fiorentina took the midfielder on a loan deal with an option to buy. This move helped the Gunners owned player return to Italy.

The Uruguay international was at Sampdoria between 2015 and 2018. During his time there, Fiorentina’s current director of football, Daniele Pradè, was there.

Pradè played a key role in helping Fiorentina beat Napoli in signing Torreira from the north London club. This was confirmed by the player’s agent, Pablo Bentancur, when asked whether the Naples club were interested in his client in the summer.

“Interest of Napoli? Yes, there were the Azzurri as well as other clubs. However, we wanted a project and we knew Daniele Pradè from the time at Sampdoria. They made Torreira feel immediately important,” Bentancur told CalcioNapoli24.

The report’s title also has a quote from the agent, stating: “Napoli? They were interested in Lucas, but Fiorentina made him feel important!”

Meanwhile, Torriera’s representative has stressed the South American is now happy after enduring a difficult campaign last season, both on and off the pitch.
