Arsenal have joined Manchester United in showing an interest in Rennes youngster Désiré Doué and have already initiated contact about a potential transfer.

That’s according to Ouest France and Sports Zone, who insist Arsenal and Manchester United are in the mix for the youngster as he looks to leave the French side.

First Ouest France, who explain that Doué has grown disappointed with life at Rennes and is now thinking of an exit, albeit in the complete opposite manner.

He had dreamed of a glorious, happy departure from the club after 13 years with them but instead it appears that he will depart on a sad note instead.

With two years left on his current deal and no desire to change that, the Ligue 1 club need to sell this summer to avoid losing out on a massive fee for the highly rated midfielder.

The interested parties are lining up and Arsenal and Manchester United are seen as two of only a handful that could afford him. It would be more complicated for the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen or RB Leipzig, for example.

That gives Arsenal and Manchester United an advantage, with Rennes looking for a big fee after selling the likes of Eduardo Camavinga and Jeremy Doku in recent years.

Sports Zone, meanwhile, report that while the player’s representative is talking to PSG, another that could afford him, Arsenal and Manchester United ‘have initiated initial contacts’ as well.

That would suggest they are at least interested in exploring a deal and finding out the costs, and potentially challenging PSG for his signature this summer.

They’re certainly seen as one of only a few who can afford him anyway, which puts them out in front in the early running.
