Martin Odegaard has been warned he needs to ‘get his act together’ or face a repeat of what happened at Real Madrid, at Arsenal.
AS cover the midfielder’s situation at the Emirates today and say ‘history repeats itself’ for the midfielder, whose position at Arsenal is now ‘a little awkward’.
The Gunners paid €40m to sign Odegaard in the summer after his successful loan spell last season in the hope he would establish himself as a star under Mikel Arteta.
That has not been the case yet, though, with the Norwegian ‘not finding his best form’ so far this season. Indeed, he has been ‘sidelined’ by Emile Smith-Rowe, who has been the star of the show so far.
Now reports have indicated that Arsenal are looking at adding another attacking midfielder in the January transfer window, with Raheem Sterling said to be the standout candidate thus far.
The arrival of the Englishman, or anyone for that matter, would ‘completely eclipse’ Odegaard and ‘sentence’ him to a peripheral role even more.
It’s bad timing for the midfielder, who is ‘experiencing a downturn’ in his career and hasn’t been able to fix it at Arsenal.
One goal and one assist is not a good return for the money they spent, and he now finds himself ‘relegated to the bench’ as a result.
AS say that should be a warning sign, and he needs to ‘get his act together’ before further competition arrives, and he finds himself in the same situation he was in at Real Madrid, where he was ‘constantly pushed aside’ by the big signings.
This feels like a little bitterness from the Spanish media.
