This morning, when reading O Jogo from Portugal, we’ve seen a story saying Benfica are interested in the former Newcastle United fullback Kevin Mbabu.

The article mentioned that clubs like Arsenal and Manchester United had both been linked to the player in the past, but that was just a few words in the middle of the text.

However, when posting the story on their website, O Jogo makes a big deal out of it, with a headline saying ‘Benfica interested in Mbabu, target of Manchester United, Arsenal, and not only’.

So O Jogo is leading its readers to believe there’s competition from Red Devils and Gunners, when there actually isn’t.

The last time Manchester United were linked to Mbabu was in May 2018, when the German press said José Mourinho could sign him to replace Matteo Darmian at the club. Regarding Arsenal, it was the player himself who revealed he’s rejected an offer from the Gunners many years ago.

Maybe O Jogo is using these clubs as an attractive for a big race Benfica are joining to sign the player, and we’re here just to say there’s not much in this story in case you see it coming out of Portugal.
