With the Kalidou Koulibaly transfer rumours still circling, the future of Arsenal’s Sokratis Papastathopoulos remains up in the air.

The Greek defender looks set to leave the Emirates this transfer window, but for that to happen, he needs the Senegalese centre-back to move to either Manchester City or Paris Saint-Germain.

As things stand, that doesn’t look set on happening, but if it were to, then Corriere del Mezzogiorno make his move to Napoli sound fairly easy.

The local newspaper explain the Serie A side are thinking about ‘two names’ for their incomings at the back, with Sokratis labelled the ‘priority’.

The Arsenal man would then ‘free himself’ from the Gunners, with his current contract at the Emirates expiring in June 2021.

Furthermore, they state Sokratis ‘already has an agreement’ with the Italians for a ‘two-year period with the option for the third year at €2.5m per season’.

This would see him go to a club where he will be likely to get first team football in Koulibaly’s absence, which he won’t be getting in London as shown by Mikel Arteta’s decision to leave him out of the Fulham match day squad altogether.
