On July 15th, Arsenal allowed Albert Sambi Lokonga to join Sevilla on a loan deal with an option to buy.
Later that month, the midfielder picked up an injury and missed the start of the season. This didn’t go down well with the media local to the La Liga side.
The Arsenal owned player made his debut for Sevilla against RCD Mallorca in August and started in their 2-0 defeat to Girona.
Lokonga suffered another injury setback at the start of this month. The Andalusian club, via Mundo Deportivo, have confirmed the 24-year-old has been working on his recovery in Qatar.
In recent days, the Belgium international carried out tests at a medical centre in Qatar. He was accompanied to the Middle East by the Spanish club’s medical staff.
According to Sevilla, the Arsenal man has completed his recovery process. They add he’s carried out “different functional and biomechanical tests at the prestigious Aspetar Sports Medicine Centre [in Qatar].”
García Pimienta’s side have also provided a positive update on when he could return to training.
“[Lokonga carried out] different tests to optimise his fitness with Doctor Pieter D’Hooghe and the physiotherapists Enda King and Simon Wallace. [If] everything goes as expected, [he will return to training] at the end of this week,” Sevilla said.
Sevilla have an option to make the Arsenal midfielder’s loan stay permanent. Earlier claims have stated they have no plans to retain him beyond this season.
