Marseille are eyeing up a move for Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares as they reshape the squad to suit new manager Igor Tudor.
That’s according to L’Equipe, who say the French side will be adopting a more direct style of play after swapping Jorge Sampaoli for Tudor.
That means a change in transfer strategy, with Tudor wanting to sign new full-backs who can be part of his attacking strategy.
Club chief Pablo Longoria is ‘getting busy’ finding suitable players, and the ‘hottest prospect’ is Arsenal’s Tavares.
He moved to the Emirates last summer but struggled to make an impression and has been linked with a move away this year as a result.
Marseille would be in favour of a ‘creative’ strategy and are ‘working on’ the possibility of a loan deal rather than a permanent transfer.
They have a good relationship with Arsenal after doing deals for Mattéo Guendouzi and William Saliba last year. Both of those were loan deals, but the midfielder’s included an almost compulsory purchase option.
The suggestion is that they could try to reach a similar agreement for Tavares, using their successful negotiations last year and good relations to their advantage.
