When the likes of Arsenal, Man City and Man United went to watch João Felix playing for Benfica, the Portuguese press didn’t really know what to do with that information.
The youngster hasn’t even debuted for the first team yet, and that’s why the local media didn’t have much to tell about the club’s plans for his future.
But newspaper O Jogo comes up with a clarifying story, saying that Benfica have decided what will be of the 18-year-old.
They see Felix as a player to be developed by the club. It means they want to hold him until he gets a spot in the first team, as he has the potential for that.
But of course, money talks, so there’s a price to take him from Lisbon. When the news first came up, we thought the Eagles would demand his €60m release clause. But now O Jogo says that €40m should be enough.
Besides Arsenal, City and United, the newspaper claims that PSG, Monaco and Milan are all keen on the player as well, so that should create quite a competition.
However, with this pricetag for a youngster who’s still to play for the first team, we bet it should take a while until some of these clubs offer that much. Unless Benfica are bluffing and accept less.
