Swedish side Helsingborgs IF handed Armin Gigović a first team debut last July, two years after he joined their academy from Landskrona BoIS.
The defensive midfielder has made only 14 appearances for the senior team, but that’s not stopped him from drawing attention of other European clubs.
Arsenal and Manchester City have their sights on the 18-year-old, according to Swedish journalist and transfer expert Daniel Kristoffersson.
Denmark’s BT interviewed Kristoffersson and he revealed the Gunners and Pep Guardiola’s side are interested in the youngster.
Apart from the two Premier League sides, the teenager is also on the radar of clubs in the Netherlands, Italy, Belgium and Denmark.
The Expressen journalist states that Helsingborgs have already turned down an offer of SEK 15 million (€1.4m). However, the Swedish side are in a ‘very bad’ financial situation and that’s why they will have to sell the player this summer.
Despite interest from the likes of Arsenal, City and other clubs, Kristoffersson has warned Gigović to make a switch to a big club.
Earlier this month, Helsingborgs president Krister Azelius told Fotbollskanalen there has been no contact with Mikel Arteta’s side or the Etihad club for the Sweden U19 international.
“I received a text message about this (Arsenal and the City information) a while ago, from an acquaintance, and then I made a couple of calls and we in HIF do not know this,” Azelius said.
“I cannot answer if they are really interested, but we have no contacts from agents regarding City and Arsenal. We would be welcome it, but I keep saying that this is something that is in the pipeline. There is a lot of buzz around ‘Giggo’, which means there is a lot of interest.”
