On Tuesday, Calciomercato reported Arsenal have forcefully entered the race to sign Bologna’s Riccardo Calafiori in the summer window.

It was also said the Gunners have made an approach for the defender. This is backed up Corriere dello Sport, who provide more updates on Arsenal’s desire to secure his services.

The newspaper claims the Serie A side have received a ‘monstrous proposal’ of €47m from Mikel Arteta’s side.

Arsenal’s offer hasn’t completely convinced Bologna, who ‘want more money’ to sanction his sale.

It’s claimed the Italian club’s starting request is at around €50m as they have to pay 40% of the profit to the player’s former club, FC Basel.

As well as the Gunners, Chelsea are keen on signing the 22-year-old. This has pleased the Serie A side, who are hoping for an auction to collect their desired fee from the centre-back’s transfer.

The report claims the Bologna have already rejected Arsenal’s proposal and will only consider selling Calafiori if the Gunners return with an improved offer or if Chelsea make a new attempt.

Bologna hoping for an auction indicates they want Arsenal to make a new bid.
