It’s an easy rumour, and it was bound to come back at some point this summer: Arsenal are interested in Alban Lafont.
With Wojciech Szczesny’s future seemingly far from the Emirates and David Ospina’s not far behind, the Gunners could be on the lookout for a new young keeper to succeed Petr Cech down the line.
Emiliano Martinez is clearly not that person, even if he could be a decent rotation option for the former Czech Republic international for a season or so.
This is where Alban Lafont, a very talented and young French goalkeeper comes in.
As we said above, the story kind of writes itself, and Le10 Sport, perhaps unsurprisingly, are the ones pushing it on Thursday afternoon.
Publishing a story on their website, the French magazine claim Arsenal have already enquired about the player (we’re assuming to Toulouse).
He’s not the only man they’ve scouted in France, as an Arsenal scout was allegedly present to watch Stéphane Ruffier back in April, but that’s as far as it got with him, probably because of his age (30).
There’s no doubt interest there, but will it go any further? We’re not so sure.
Why? Because Lafont will want to play as much as possible next season, and he’ll be able to do that with Toulouse.
Do we sound like Arsène Wenger by asking all these questions? Maybe a little.
