Arsenal and Milan are reportedly the two clubs leading the race for Sporting fullback Nuno Mendes.
Portuguese newspaper O Jogo writes today that the English and the Italian sides have come forward with a ‘declaration of intent’ regarding their wish to sign the 18-year-old.
The Rossoneri seem to have gone further, as they told the Lions they’d like to pay €15m for the teenager, besides letting the Lisbon side keep a percentage of a future transfer.
Meanwhile, Arsenal only asked how much they’d have to spend on the signing, and the price demanded by Sporting is exactly the problem here.
Sporting are said to be asking for €45m, which is the amount of Nuno Mendes’ release clause. And since the player has just signed a new deal with the club, they’re now in a very comfortable position to hold onto him.
So Arsenal or Milan would have to make a very convincing offer to take him out of Alvalade this summer.
Other clubs such as Liverpool and Manchester United are said to be following the player as well.
