One of the areas Corriere dello Sport seemed quite adamant Arsenal wanted to bolster in January was at left-back.

With Kieran Tierney injured and Sead Kolašinac the only natural in the position in the squad after the departure of Nacho Monreal, it made some sense to have an extra body, which is where the pursuit for Konstantinos Tsimikas came in.

No bid appears to have been made for the Greek defender, but Arsenal were mentioned a number of times as potential challengers for Napoli, who were looking at the Olympiakos man.

However, according to Calciomercato, Tsimikas wasn’t the only defender the two clubs were interested in, as it’s explained the Gunners were also looking at Amir Rrahmani.

It’s explained Napoli had an agreement with Verona for the centre-back as early as mid-November, beginning of December for the Kosovo international, but Arsenal didn’t know this.

The website report that Mikel Arteta’s side turned up for Rrahmani in early January, contacting the Serie A side, who, instead of starting talks with the Premier League club, respected the deal they had with Aurelio De Laurentiis and told the Londoners a move was already in place.

After that, Arsenal never came back, likely focusing on other targets, like Pablo Marí.
