James Rodriguez Mundo Deportiva August 23rdArsenal fans have, once again, grown frustrated with Arsene Wenger and the club’s transfer business this summer. What started off so impressively with the purchase of Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach, then didn’t follow on so well.

Arsenal haven’t signed the central defender or centre forward which it’s considered they need in order to mount a stronger title challenge, and progress to the latter rounds of the Champions League.

Reports had suggested that Wenger wasn’t keen to pay a huge fee for a defender, because he had something else up his sleeve, and was saving money. Some Arsenal fans on social media were led to believe the club would complete a ‘madness’ signing.

Well, they may well have the chance. If it’s ignored that square pegs don’t fit round holes, James Rodriguez is a world star who seems very much available.

Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo on Tuesday say Arsenal are still ‘lurking’ and have an interest in signing the Colombian. Twice the newspaper says Arsenal, along with Chelsea, are the best positioned club to sign James.

It’s claimed Wenger approves the signing and Arsenal are now closest to getting together the €60m fee which Real Madrid want.

Mundo Deportivo is a Catalan newspaper, and so it’s hard to work out how they’d have inside information on Madrid. However, they’re quite insistent, and even if it’s not accurate, it’s pretty much certain James is available for a big fee.

A Wenger ‘madness’? Unlikely, but it could be a nice story to wrap up a crazy end to the window.
