Although Liverpool’s Lazar Markovic is the Premier League loanee who gets most of the media attention at Sporting, Joel Campbell from Arsenal is having a far more calm and productive season up to now.
With a goal and an assist last night, the Arsenal owned player helped the club get back on track by beating Arouca 3-0. After a short crisis, Sporting are now back in the title race, three points behind the leaders Benfica.
Interviewed by Sport TV, the player talked about the importance of the squad, regardless of whether he’s starting or not: “This is a team, when we win, we all win, when we lose, we all lose. The 11 the manager picks are those who must give their heart for the team.
“That’s how it is, day after day. We have a very competitive squad, full of good players and the important thing is to work hard and wait for the opportunity.”
Campbell now has three goals and one assist in nine games for Sporting. Even though he is still to guarantee himself a place in the starting team, he has proved to be an important player for Jorge Jesus for the season.
With a contract running at Arsenal until 2018, the player is set to return to the Emirates next summer, unless Arsene Wenger sanctions a permanent exit.
