Earlier this week, we covered the news from the Portuguese media which said the Arsenal loanee Joel Campbell had been ruled out of a Champions League match due to a knee injury.
Now the latest updates say the player is still working on his recovery, as he fights against time so he can make the squad for the derby match against Benfica on Sunday.
Portuguese newspaper Record claims that Sporting’s doctors are doing everything possible so the player can recover in time. There’s an extra rush in this case due to the game’s importance.
Sporting are only two points behind Benfica, so a win would put the Lions on top of the table.
The injury came right when Campbell was finding his place in the starting team. He was supposed to be the one to play behind the striker Bas Dost in Sunday’s match.
It would be a great opportunity for Campbell to impress Arsene Wenger, and maybe help save an Arsenal career, to impress other clubs, or even convince Sporting that he needs to be a big part of the first team.
Campbell has three goals and one assist in 14 games for Sporting this season.
