Arsenal and Liverpool both get a mention in the race for the Benfica winger Jota today.
As Bayern Munich will be scouting two of Portugal’s U20 games to keep an eye on the player, newspaper O Jogo details a bit more of the competition for him.
They say Gunners and Reds are both following the player as well, representing some competition for the German side, who seem more advanced in the chase.
Although most of the Benfica youngsters are protected by big release clauses, only €30m is needed to take Jota from the Eagles. That’s the reason why the Lisbon side are in a hurry to give the player a new contract and set a new price for him.
With only four appearances for Benfica’s first team so far, Jota is mostly calling the attention from big European sides by shining in the Eagles’ academy and for Portugal’s U20 squad. So maybe he’s another one who will leave Lisbon before being properly used by the club.
Arsenal, Liverpool and other interested clubs will be well aware that any new release clause is likely to be double what it currently is.
