On Thursday afternoon, a story came out we were expecting at some point this summer, and that was a link between Arsenal and Alban Lafont.
The Toulouse goalkeeper is widely regarded as one of the top prospects in his role around Europe, and seeing the Gunners, a club needing a backup for Cech if both Wojciech Szczesny and David Ospina leave this summer, said to be interested didn’t come as a surprise.
Le10 Sport said Arsène Wenger had already made a first enquiry for the 18-year-old, but it appears the France U20 international isn’t going anywhere this summer.
Speaking to Sport365 in France about Toulouse in general, their manager Pascal Dupraz was very quick to clarify the situation around his starlet, saying: “Lafont? He won’t be leaving.”
That means the young goalkeeper, who already has 60 Ligue 1 games to his name, is expected to be Toulouse’s number one next season.
Guess that’s that for now. Probably until next year.
Breaking through the ranks midway through the 2015/16 season, Lafont made 36 appearances for Toulouse last year, conceding 41 goals and picking up 10 clean sheets.
