Arsenal and Leicester City have reportedly made approaches for Las Palmas defensive midfielder Roque Mesa. According to Cope Las Palmas, both clubs have initiated some form of contact in order to know the possibility of a deal for the winter transfer market.

Las Palmas are reportedly trying to make the player sign a new contract, since his good start of season has been attracting interest from several European clubs, including the two named in Spain.

The 27-year-old already came close to signing for La Liga rivals Sevilla in the last transfer window, but ended up staying at the club.

Recent reports from Spain say Roque Mesa has a contract until 2020 and a release clause of €30m. Transfermarkt currently values him at €7.5m.

The suggestion of Arsenal and Leicester interest in the player for a January move is curious, but it’s also hugely convenient given the player is set to go into contract negotiations.

Who knows, maybe the two English clubs are going left-field with their transfer plans for January. Stranger things have happened. Just.
