Lucas Torreira spent last season on loan with Fiorentina, and had a good period with the club. The 26-year-old was a key part of their midfield, making 35 appearances.
The media close to Fiorentina made a point of saying it was noticeable when the Arsenal owned player wasn’t on the pitch, and a permanent transfer this summer largely seemed a formality.
La Viola have a €15m purchase clause and it’s long been said they’d look for a discount, and if none were available then the full amount would likely be paid to Arsenal.
Desire for a discount seemed to be related to knocking something relatively small, like €2-3m, from the price, but instead Fiorentina have gone in at less than half.
Fiorentina.it report, according to their own information, that the Serie A side have proposed just €7m to Arsenal. That’s left the Gunners furious, and they’ve not even responded to the offer.
Torreira only has a year left on his contract with Arsenal, yet is still worth far more than €7m. It could now be time for Arsenal to start looking for other interested clubs.
