It appears that Mikel Arteta wants to buy himself a new left-back for next season, and Aaron Hickey is the man he is going after.
The 19-year-old currently plays for Bologna in Italy, but if the European media are to be believed, Arsenal are keen to bring him back to these shores, just a bit further south of Glasgow, his city of birth.
The latest comes from 1000 Cuori Rossoblu, who look at what could happen to their young starlet in the summer, describing Hickey as a ‘valuable piece’ for the club.
In fact, his galavanting displays in Serie A, where he has scored five goals and assisted another in 34 appearances, have ‘produced several admirers’.
The Gunners are among them, with it said Napoli and Arsenal are ‘in the lead with potential €20m offers’ to sign him.
However, the director of football at the club ‘will hardly let go of a player who could become one of the strongest left-backs on the European scene’, especially the he is so young and has room to develop more before being sold.
‘That’s the hope’, anyways, but we all know that if Arsenal come knocking and present Bologna with enough money, they will eventually cave in.
It’s already happened once in the past with Takehiro Tomiyasu, and it wouldn’t be surprising if it happened again with Hickey.
