Spending around €30m on World Cup winner Steven Nzonzi last summer, Roma decided to add some experience to their midfield as Monchi got to work on a number of transfers.

Unfortunately for them, things haven’t really worked out, and with their then new director of football now already back at Sevilla, Claudio Ranieri in charge and the prospect of missing out on the Champions League next year, there’s a mess to clear up.

Thankfully, it appears a couple of clubs are interested in the French defensive midfielder, including Arsenal, who have held a long-term interest in Nzonzi since his Sevilla days.

The news comes from TuttoMercatoWeb, who state Arsenal and Monaco are keen on his services to bolster their midfield, but Roma won’t let the 30 year old go that cheaply.

In order to avoid losing too much money, their demands are €22m, which, for a World Cup winning midfielder who also has a decent amount of Premier League experience, isn’t awful.

As usual, it’s worth pointing out that Unai Emery was the manager in charge of Sevilla when Nzonzi was signed by the La Liga club back in 2015 and the pair spent a season together before the Spaniard left to manage Paris Saint-Germain.

That way, there will be no surprises if he signs for Arsenal.
