Arsenal have scouted Benfica repeatedly so far this season, and after a winter break it appears they’re back on it. After the lull of the end of the transfer window, Portuguese newspaper A Bola reports that Arsenal had a scout at the match between Benfica and Nacional on Sunday evening.
Benfica won the match 3-0 with goals from Jonas and Mitroglou, and whilst Arsenal have, in the past, been linked to the latter, it would take some leap of faith to believe there’s truth in that.
A Bola believes that right back Nelson Semedo, central defender Victor Lindelof, and goalkeeper Ederson will have been on the agenda of Premier League clubs visiting, with Manchester United also there, but Arsenal don’t appear to be short in any of those positions.
Arsene Wenger is hardly going to pay the £30m+ that Semedo would probably cost just for a Hector Bellerin back-up. There’s clearly been someone at Benfica, or perhaps even more than one player, catching Arsenal’s eye, given the repeated scouting.
