Three days ago, Voetbal International reported Cody Gakpo has held ‘exploratory talks’ over joining either Liverpool or Manchester City.
Arsenal have now joined the Reds and Pep Guardiola’s side in the chase to sign the PSV Eindhoven player.
That’s according to Foot Mercato, who claim the north London club view the forward as a possible successor to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The Gabon international has not featured since the Gunners’ 2-1 defeat to Everton at the start of last month. Since then, he has been stripped of the captaincy.
Arsenal travelled to Dubai for a mid-season break and reports in England stated the Premier League side have left Aubameyang back in London. Therefore, it would make sense for them to look at Gakpo.
It’s claimed Arteta’s side have been added to the ‘list of courtiers’ who are monitoring the Dutchman’s situation at PSV.
Foot Mercato even state that Arsenal, who are looking for an attacker, could ‘jump at the opportunity’ to sign the player, either in the final days of the January window or next summer.
Gakpo has 10 goals and 11 assists from 28 matches in all competitions this season.
