Unable to buy players permanently until next summer, Arsenal are a tad limited in who they can target this January, and the Gunners appear to be focusing on players like Denis Suarez and Christopher Nkunku, both out of favour at their respective clubs.

This means the expensive desires will have to wait until the summer, which works out fine in Nicolo Barella’s case since he isn’t ready to leave Cagliari midway through the current campaign.

Once the season comes to a close, however, the Serie A side are bracing themselves for a vicious battle over their starlet, with clubs such as Inter, Chelsea, Manchester United and, of course, Arsenal all expected to swoop in.

Much like the Red Devils, the Gunners are claimed to be one of the main teams waiting on the sidelines, with an interest described as ‘very much alive’.

Barella himself is reportedly ‘much more enticed’ by a move to the Premier League, and it would be ‘impossible’ for him, and Cagliari, to turn down a move to the Emirates should they become the main protagonists in his near future.

Napoli were the first to come forward with an offer in January, which was politely turned away by their Serie A counterparts, and Gazzetta dello Sport (where all this has come from, by the way) warn their readers about the ‘pressing’ from England, once again name dropping Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United.

This looks to be shaping up as one of the stories of the summer.
