Arsenal had scouts at Estádio da Luz on Thursday night, the Portuguese press reports today.

According to newspaper Record, the Gunners had officials watching Benfica’s Europa League clash against Galatasaray, which ended with a goalless draw.

Arsenal’s target isn’t revealed by Record, and as the London side are one of the clubs who often have an emissary watching games in Portugal, it’s sometimes hard to guess who their target is this time.

But recent reports make it clear that one Benfica player of interest to the Gunners is Alex Grimaldo. Not only in stories coming from the Portuguese press, but by the Spanish media as well.

Grimaldo, who’s been in great form for a couple of seasons now, had another good game against Galatasaray, being picked as Man of the Match by Record. He’s shown some versatility for doing well in defence and creating several chances as well.

The left-back is protected by a €60m release clause, and with several clubs interested, Benfica will be seeing Euro signs.

Juventus, Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, Everton, Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid, Milan, Sevilla, Manchester City and Real Valladolid were the other clubs who had scouts at this game.
