One of the interesting stories from January that never created anything concrete but made some waves in Italy nevertheless was Arsenal’s interest in Konstantinos Tsimikas.

The left-back, who currently plays for Olympiakos, was a target for Napoli throughout January, but only if Faouzi Ghoulam was able to find himself a new club.

Many were interested in the Algerian, yet the right move never came along, meaning he stayed to see off the 2019-20 campaign in the south of Italy.

In turn, Tsimikas stayed in Greece, but that doesn’t mean Napoli have given up on him, as Corriere dello Sport explain the 23-year-old remains in the Cristiano Giuntoli’s notebooks for the future, ‘at least as long as there is certainty that Arsenal or anyone else haven’t been able to take him away’ from the Super League club.

That suggests Mikel Arteta’s side remain competition for the Serie A club when it comes to the left-back going forward, and there is some worry the Premier League club could swoop in to snatch the player right from under Gennaro Gattuso’s nose.

We’ll have to wait and see for now since both transfer window in Italy and England are currently shut, but this interest in Tsimikas might not be good news for Sead Kolašinac.
