Arsenal have become the latest club to join the chase for Getafe defender Mathías Olivera, according to claims coming out of Italy.

Napoli were set to be the left-back’s next club after the two parties agreed a deal back in March. The Serie A side also found an agreement with Getafe for a loan deal with an obligation to buy for €11m plus €3-4m in potential payment as bonuses.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Getafe today have ‘completely changed the negotiation scenario’ as they now demand more money from Napoli. The report states they ‘now want’ the ‘full and immediate payment’ of €20m for the Uruguay international.

This would be a ‘safe income to invest immediately’ for Getafe rather than waiting for a few more months or years. The La Liga side would have received four offers for the 24-year-old, and one of them is from Arsenal.

It’s claimed Mikel Arteta’s side and Benfica seem to be the ‘most interested clubs’ to sign the player this summer.

With the arrival of Arsenal and other sides, Napoli, for their part, are ‘no longer willing to negotiate’ with Getafe for the South American. Meanwhile, his entourage are ‘determined to snatch’ the ‘best contract’ for their client.

Olivera has a goal and three assists from 32 league matches in the recently concluded season.
