That Arsenal are interested in Mainz’s young centre-back Abdou Diallo isn’t anything new.
The story dates back to the end of April, with Gianluca Di Marzio bringing it back a week ago, and now RMC Sport have their own twist on it on Friday in their live blog (at 16:33).
According to the French outlet, as well as the Gunners, four other clubs are after the 22-year-old: Napoli, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig and Valencia.
The La Liga club have apparently already made an enquiry, while Leipzig believe Diallo would be more open to a move to their Bundesliga rivals.
As for Arsenal, the outlet suggest Diallo is seen as an alternative to Sokratis Papastathopoulos, meaning that if that deal fell through, they’d put all of their efforts in signing the youngster.
While Mainz have very little interest in seeing their starlet leave the club this summer and aren’t open to negotiations, RMC have learned from the player’s entourage that an offer of more than €20m could change the club’s mind.
So, Arsenal are indeed interested, they now know the price tag, but he’s not a priority for the time being.
Sokratis is.
