Arsenal are in talks with Denis Zakaria’s agents about a move to the Emirates for free next summer.
That’s according to Fussball Transfers, who say the Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder has decided his next move will be to the Premier League.
He’s out of contract with the German club in the summer, and several reports in Germany have made it clear he will not be signing a new deal.
That leaves him free to talk to clubs in Europe about a move come January, when Gladbach are likely to try and push for a sale to ensure they don’t lose him on a free in the summer.
Arsenal are one of several clubs to have been linked, with FT reporting that Juventus, Inter, Roma, Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund are all keen.
However, Zakaria’s ‘preferred destination’ is the Premier League, and while there have been ‘loose contacts’ with Manchester United and Manchester City, it is Arsenal who are ‘more concretely interested.’
According to their information, the Gunner are in contact with Zakaria’s agents and are ‘scenting’ a free transfer for the summer.
However, whether they have a chance of winning his signature is dependant on how they perform this season and whether they succeed in qualifying for ‘international competition’.
We’ll assume that means the Champions League, although perhaps Zakaria would be happy playing in the Europa League as well.
We’re sure we’ll learn about that at some point, with him a transfer that several clubs seem to be eyeing up, chief among them Arsenal.
