Despite having William Saliba returning from loan, as well as Benjamin White and Gabriel Magalhães already at the club, Arsenal are reportedly keen on another centre-back.

That man is Lisandro Martínez, currently at Ajax Amsterdam, who has been the subject of much speculation this summer.

The 24-year-old has three years left on his contract with the Eredivisie side, meaning they are in no rush to sell and can ask a high price, which Arsenal seem prepared to try and meet.

We say this because the Gunners have now made their third offer, if previous reports are to be believed, with journalist César Luis Merlo claiming the London side have ‘improved their offer to €40m + €5m in bonuses, but Ajax still haven’t answered’.

This comes amid claims that Manchester United are interested, but the Red Devils have yet to make an offer for the player.

As for Martínez in all this, he is said to be ‘happy’ in the Netherlands, but the idea of going to some of the big clubs in the Premier League ‘seduces him’.

Arsenal certainly fall into that category, meaning that if Ajax get back to the Gunners about that bid and it’s a positive answer, the defender shouldn’t be too difficult to convince.
