Arsenal are interested in Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria but may be unable to afford him at this moment in time.
That’s according to SportBILD journalist Christian Falk, who says the player wants a move to England over the likes of Italy.
Zakaria has battled back from a problem knee injury to be a star for Monchengladbach again this season, and that has seen interest in him pick up once again.
He’s long been linked with a move to the Premier League, with the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City being named as suitors in the past.
The interest at this moment in time appears to be coming from Italy, though, with Roma manager Jose Mourinho reportedly keen as he’s been looking to add a defensive midfielder to his ranks since his arrival at the club.
Indeed, Zakaria was the alternative to Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka in the summer, but a failure to get players out of the club meant neither of the Switzerland internationals ended up making the move.
The interest is there, though, and it seems Mourinho could face competition from Arsenal, at least if Falk is to be believed.
“That is a clear true,” he told BILD when asked if Arsenal are ‘also hot’ for Zakaria.
“There has been interest in the past. Zakaria is on the books of almost every top club in Italy, but he wants the Premier League.
“Arsenal could be a club that can’t afford them anymore but are interested.”
