We’re beginning to lose just a little bit of faith in L’Equipe’s transfer specials. Either Premier League clubs are falling over themselves, perhaps literally, as they target a new Ligue 1 star each day, or there are power brokers in French football who would like that to seem the case.

Less than a week ago L’Equipe reported that Tottenham have ‘expressed a keen interest’ in signing Thomas Lemar from AS Monaco. They were one of several Premier League clubs to be very keen on the player, and Tottenham had the money for a big approach.

In their Friday edition, after a couple of weeks which have seen so many Ligue 1 to Premier League claims it would genuinely be hard to write them on all on a postcard, L’Equipe link Arsenal strongly.

With Arsene Wenger staying, Arsenal are ready to ‘hit hard’ in the market, and that includes trying to beat Tottenham and everyone else to Lemar.

The flexible wideman ‘is not insensitive’ to Arsenal, or many of the other clubs interested in him.

All this sets up a summer Wenger v Maurico Pochettino battle, with the former out to ruin the latter’s plans.
