Arsenal’s interest in Mario Lemina is nothing new, dating back to 2016 when he was at Juventus, having moved their from Marseille on loan before being bought permanently.

Playing the rotation role in Italy, the young midfielder ended up wanting to play first-team football, which he couldn’t get in Turin, and Southampton ended up snapping him up for €17m last summer.

Impressing since his arrival in the Premier League, the 24-year-old is now a reported target for Liverpool, according to L’Equipe, but that doesn’t mean Arsenal have given up.

In fact, the French newspaper make it very clear that, despite him being at Southampton, the Gunners and Arsène Wenger are still seduced by what he could bring to a team.

Whether that materialises into a bid next summer remains to be seen, but if the two clubs came knocking on the Saints’ door come the end of the season, you’d think, after the Virgil Van Dijk saga, they’d rather have a chat with Arsenal first.

One to keep an eye on.
