On July 26th, Firenze Viola reported Arsenal are one of the clubs in the ‘background’ for Josip Šutalo. The north London club were mentioned when the report was explaining Fiorentina’s interest in the Dinamo Zagreb player.
Calciomercato.it now explain the steps taken by the Gunners in the chase for the 23-year-old.
The defender has been desired by several top clubs this summer and only Arsenal and Ajax are mentioned.
With regards to the Premier League side, it’s said Mikel Arteta is an admirer of the centre-back. This would have convinced Arsenal as the report claims they have ‘moved’ to sign him.
Arsenal have to act quickly if they wish to bring the Croatia international to the Emirates. That’s because the Eredivisie side have taken a decisive step to secure his services.
Calciomercato.it say Šutalo has agreed a deal with Ajax and he’s very close to making a switch to Amsterdam. He also has a five-year deal waiting for him at the Dutch club.
The report only explains that the step taken by Ajax ‘appears to be the decisive one’ and makes no mention of them agreeing a deal with Dinamo Zagreb for Šutalo. This may give Arsenal hope, provided they are still keen to sign the player.
Šutalo has made five appearances for his current club this season.
