Adrien Rabiot still hasn’t got a new club.

Whilst some sections of the French media spent a while mocking that situation, his mother, who also works as his agent, recently made clear that circumstances meant they didn’t want to discuss a transfer for a while.

Rabiot’s grandmother and then father died, and the family obviously had other priorities, which ruled out a January transfer.

Now it’s the time to find a club, and L’Equipe report Arsenal are one of those interested.

The Gunners are among a small number of sides ‘getting closer’ to signing the midfielder, and part of the reason is Unai Emery.

The French newspaper says Arsenal were already tracking Rabiot when Arsene Wenger was manager, with old reports backing that up.

Given Emery worked with the player for two years, he has some valuable insight, and it’s explained he ‘appreciates’ his former midfielder.

There’s lots of competition, even in the Premier League, and that Rabiot is available on a free transfer means his salary will be higher than usual.
