Enjoying himself at Arsenal this season, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was also a regular for his national team, Gabon, but only when they play competitive games.
The 29-year-old left the last international break early, deciding to return to London instead of featuring in a friendly against Zambia back in November, and he’s done it again, except, this time, it was for a Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
According to L’Equipe, Aubameyang, who didn’t feature against South Sudan on Tuesday in his country’s 1-0 win, despite playing the 90 minutes in the 3-0 home victory agains the same opposition last Friday, returned to London on Monday night after refusing to travel to Juba.
The Arsenal forward allegedly ’rebelled’ with his teammates against the plane the FA had sorted out to travel, which ‘didn’t correspond to the normal standards for high level athletes’.
Already missing training on Sunday, officially because of an injury, Aubameyang then flew back to England, and let those around the national team know he could miss further Gabon games, presumably if things didn’t change.
