Athletic Bilbao star Nico Williams has aroused interest from top Premier League sides including Arsenal.
That’s according to Fichajes.net, who state the Gunners are the ‘first candidate’ to sign the 20-year-old in the summer.
The winger has seven goals and six assists from 27 matches in all competitions and his fine displays for the La Liga side have not gone unnoticed at Arsenal.
Mikel Arteta’s side would stand a chance to secure the winger’s services in the summer if he refuses to pen a new deal at the La Liga side.
The Spain international’s contract is until 2024 and the Basque club are facing ‘certain problems’ to tie him down to a new deal.
His decision to not sign an extension ‘begins to generate some nervousness’ at the club since they consider him to be a key player for the present and the future.
Ernesto Valverde’s side are aware it would be difficult for them to compete with Arsenal, both sporting wise and financially, to hold on to their star.
Williams has a €50m release clause and Mundo Deportivo stated on Thursday that Athletic Bilbao fear this will be triggered by one of his suitors after this season.
It’ll be interesting to see whether it will be activated by Arsenal or another club.
