Arsenal are ‘moving up in the race’ for Atlético Madrid forward João Félix as they don’t want to let a ‘golden opportunity’ pass them by.

That’s according to AS, who say the Gunners are very much in the fight for the Portugal star as he looks to leave the Wanda Metropolitano next month.

They say that Felix is ‘determined’ to leave Atlético in the January transfer window and super-agent Jorge Mendes is ‘knocking on the necessary doors’ to make that happen.

At the moment all signs point to him heading to the Premier League and Arsenal are one of those who are interested in him.

They are top of the league and see this as a ‘golden opportunity’ to sign the forward, particularly as they need a replacement for the injured Gabriel Jesus.

They feel ‘it’s worth making an effort’ to try and get a deal over the line as the Brazilian will be out for at least three months after undergoing surgery last week.

If Felix is to arrive, they will ‘have to convince Atleti’ by putting millions on the table in negotiations with them and the player.

The positive is that Felix is not open to a move to PSG, as he believed the competition of Neymar, Mbappé and Messi would leave him facing an extreme fight for playing time.

They’re not currently an option but Arsenal are and ‘the bidding is on’ to try and secure his signature, with Atlético wanting €100m+ if the player is to leave.
