On Monday, there appeared to be some advancement regarding Arsenal’s desire to sign Aaron Hickey from Bologna, a club they already dealt with last year during the Takehiro Tomiyasu transfer.

It was said that both the Gunners and Napoli were in the lead to sign the Scottish left-back, with a €20m offer reportedly on its way.

Well, Corriere di Bologna bring a bit more information on the matter on Tuesday, claiming Edu Gaspar wants to sign Hickey for Arsenal ‘as a replacement for the disappointing Nuno Tavares’, and that there are ‘€20m on the plate’.

The defender is aware of the interest from the Emirates, as he’s already told the English press that he’s been shown the rumours by a friend, but no movement has taken place yet.

That could change anytime now, however, as Corriere di Bologna state that ‘according to British sources, a direct contact in this sense between the Gunners and Bologna is expected in the next few hours’.

This means we could have something concrete soon, and it shows just how badly Mikel Arteta wants to bolster the left-hand side of his defence.

Hickey has scored five goals and assisted another in 34 appearances for the Serie A side this season in what is his first full season following an injury riddled campaign last year.
