Arsenal and Everton have turned down the chance to sign Thomas Lemar from Atlético Madrid this summer.
That’s according to L’Equipe, who say the French winger was ‘placed on the transfer list’ by his managers.
The newspaper reports that Lemar has not received any offers from clubs who were interested in him and so has accepted an offer to extend his stay with Atlético instead.
That will see him reduce his wages by early 50%.
As part of his agent’s efforts to move him out of the Wanda Metropolitano, he was ‘offered to’ Arsenal and Everton, but neither side were keen on a deal.
It’s left Lemar at something of a crossroads in his career, having had to accept Atlético’s demands to ensure he is a regular under Diego Simeone next season.
The Argentine coach has been left disappointed by what the forward has shown during his time at the club, hence him being offered to Everton and Arsenal.
They didn’t bite, though, and so Lemar now has three months to convince Simeone and try to earn back his place in the French National Team.
