Over the past few weeks, reports coming out of the Spanish press stated Man United and Chelsea have an interest in Barcelona’s Ronald Araújo. The situation at the west London club has seen the Blues drop out of the race.

Arsenal have now emerged as a surprise candidate to sign the defender in the summer.

The 23-year-old has less than 18 months left on his current deal and failure from the La Liga side to tie him down to a new deal will see him enter his final year of contract later this year.

With the defender yet to find an agreement with Catalan club, the likes of Mikel Arteta’s side are given an opportunity to try to take him away from the Camp Nou.

The north London club have taken the first step by making an offer. That’s according to Spanish journalist Gerard Romero, who took to Twitter to explain the centre-back ‘has proposals’ from United and the Gunners.

Arsenal’s offer includes an annual salary of €6m [likely net], which is €2m less than what United have proposed to the Uruguay international. The Emirates club need to step up their efforts, if they wish to beat the Red Devils for the player’s signature.

That’s about the only information Romero has provided in the tweet. It’s not clear whether Araújo will commit his future to Barcelona or make a switch elsewhere in the summer.
